At Google I/O, Sundar Pichai SVP at Google who looks after Android has announced Android One a new initiative by the company. This Android One program is made for emerging markets like India, South Africa, certain Russian, South America and Asian countries and will provide unified features.
Android One experiment was first started in India and first smartphone included in testing comes from Micromax. Infact developers at Google has taken three most popular smartphone brands of India, namely Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. The phone demonstrated during the I/O developer day in San Francisco comes from Micromax sporting 4.5 inch display with dual SIM connectivity, FM Radio, removable SD card support and has Android One written on its back just like the Nexus branding costing under $100.
With Android One, Google want to pull resources and help everyone to build smartphone by working on both hardware and software resources platforms helping OEM to quickly come up with a smartphone often. Apart from adding the Stock Android to these smartphones, in addition Google will allow OEM to add locally revelant apps on the device with full control. All devices in the part of Android One will be support Automatic updates. Google is also working with network carriers in India to provide affordable data/call packages to reach their milestone of 5 billion active users.
