Apple has plans to sell refurbished iPhone in India now. Earlier seeking India government [Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion] approval for Apple Store in India now a new report from Indian Express says that with that local store, there will be refurbished iPhone too available. Further plans are to set up facility in sub-continent to restore used mobile phones shipped from China.
So called as certified pre-owned iPhones in India, Apple has plans to import and sell certified pre-owned iPhones here. The application has been filed to the Environment ministry’s technical review committee [TRC] for doing such things. This is not the first time that Cupertino based iPhone maker has filed proposal as last year it had similar offerings but it was turned down by TRC with reason as – it will add India to e-waste dumping countries and we don’t want that to happen. However, TRC said that iPhone models which are three year old and has atleast five years of more life could be allowed for imports.
Apple claims that their refurbished iPhones are not second-hand devices. These new certified pre-owned iPhones will be with a new serial number, IMEI number and will have one year manufacturer’s warranty.
