Facebook Buys WhatsApps for $16 Billion in one of the Internet biggest deals ever.
One of the most widely popular social chatting platform, you know what I am talking about, its WhatsApp is now sold to Facebook for a whopping $16 billion. The deal is however not $16 billion in cash as social giant will pay $12 billion in stock and $4 billion in cash.
Earlier to this, Google has offered WhatsApp for acquisition but it was turned down by WhatsApp and soon after Mark Elliott Zuckerberg Facebook CEO and founder approached Facebook.
WhatsApp key facts -
- Over 450 million people using WhatsApp every month
- 70% of those people active on a given day
- Messaging volume approaching the entire global telecom SMS volume
- Adding more than 1 million new registered users per day
Even though after this acquisition, WhatsApp will remain an autonomous and will operate independently. You will still need to pay nominal fee of $1 per year.
