Cortana sometimes behaves weirdly. One such incident happened to me recently when Cortana unable to retrieve my interests. I am connected to the Internet, and she responds to my voice and there is no problem in fetching search results from the web. It keeps on saying that “We can’t retrieve your interests right now. Please try again in a little bit.” It happened to be and I have found out the solution.

Cortana says:

We can’t retrieve your interests right now. Please try again in a little bit.”

Cortana Interests Not Working

Follow the guide mentioned below to fix Cortana interests issue. We will be going through level by level guide because I am not sure how big is your problem. For me the problem was resolved in Level 2 but for you, it can be resolved in Level 1 itself.

Level 1:

The problem of Cortana not showing your interests might be due to your PC/laptop running on older Windows versions. As such you need to install the latest Windows updates on your PC. Check if its fixed or not on your Windows 10 or Windows 7 laptop.

Level 2:

Cortana for Windows is optimized for specific languages correlating to markets. Like in Spain it will work to detect Spanish only.

Here are the countries list and language that Cortana accepts:

• Australia: English
• Brazil: Portuguese
• Canada: English/French
• China: Chinese (Simplified)
• France: French
• Germany: German
• India: English
• Italy: Italian
• Japan: Japanese
• Mexico: Spanish
• Spain: Spanish
• United Kingdom: English
• United States: English

Make sure that you are using the language that Microsoft has listed as above in your country or else Cortana will not work.

How to Change Cortana Language:

• Open Settings.
• Select Time & Language.
• Now select Region & Language.
• Select the preferred language by region as mentioned above.

Check now whether Cortana showing your interests or not.

Level 3:

Sometimes proxy connection too can cause this problem. Try to disable it and check.

• Go to Settings.
• Go to Tools > Internet Options.
• Then head to Connections > LAN Settings.
• Uncheck “Proxy server for your LAN“.
• And then tap on OK.

Also Toggle Cortana, i.e., turn it OFF and then turn ON.

Level 4:

You need to customize Cortana interests. Here is how:

• Click on “…” in the Cortana menu.
• In the expanded Menu click on Hide the Guidelines.
• Enter your entry.

Check now whether the Cortana issue is resolved or not.
