How to Add Custom Codec to MX Player

Android users know it well that nothing can be a better video player than the MX player for their device. As the app bears loads of useful features, it is preferred by most of the Android phone users for playing videos.

Due to some latest updates on this player, users nowadays are not able to enjoy proper audio in their video files through MX player. The reason behind this is that the DTS and DOLBY audio codec supports have been eliminated from the official player because of license issue.

Here is the way to add a custom codec to MX player –

Find Suitable Codec

Installation and downloading of custom codec for your MX player is possible manually. In order to find that what platform your device is able to support, you should open settings of the MX player and start navigating the option ‘decoder’. During the time of navigation to the bottom side of the page, you will find an option ‘custom codec’. Here, you will get an idea that what type of codec you should download.

Installation of Codec

In order to install a custom codec for your MX player, you need nothing but to download the Zip file of the codec from XDA or any other source and then copy it to the root folder of internal memory of the device. Sometimes, MX player recognizes the file automatically in your memory card and uses it next time whenever you play the app. If doesn’t follow the process mentioned below –

  • Open MX Player from your phone app drawer.MX Player for Nokia Asha
  • Head to Settings.
  • Hit Decoder.MX Player Custom Codec
  • Scroll down to the bottom until you see Custom Codec.MX Player Custom Codec
  • Browse to the custom codec file that you have downloaded.

Manual installation of the codec pack is also possible through ‘Decoder Settings’ if the app does not recognize the downloaded file.
