How to Fix VCRUNTIME Errors for Gaming Systems

VCRUNTIME Errors fix on Windows

Your gaming system might run with some errors. Here is how to fix VCRUNTIME Errors.

Sometimes while you are attempting to install a game or launch it, you may encounter an error stating that the file vcruntime140.dll was not found. This error prompt may sometimes say that reinstalling the package might help fix it, but this alone might not help rectify the issue for many users.

If you are in the same boat as other players and are experiencing any such gaming system errors, try out the fixes given below to resolve them. Each error has its own solution or fix and below mentioned steps are to get rid of VCRuntime error –

Update the Graphics Card Driver

The error may show up if your graphic card driver is in any way faulty. In case the driver is outdated, missing, or broken, it will lead to a communication cutoff between the visual C++ package and the game.

Even if you put together a state-of-the-art GPU, a faulty device driver can easily crash the game. To resolve this issue, you have to remove the current display driver from the system and install an updated version. Use the Device Manager, Windows Update utility, or any third-party software to find the updated version.

Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable Package

Another way to resolve the vcruntime error is by reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributable package. It is a program developed by Microsoft to support specific software applications, and most of the games are created with the help of this programming infrastructure.

All games require Visual C++ runtime redistributable packages to run without any glitches or errors.  You will find plenty of versions of the Visual Studio, and running the corresponding package is imperative to ensure a smooth operation on a Windows PC.

So, while launching a game, if the “vcruntime140.dll was not found” error pops up, try installing the newer versions of the C++ redistributable package and check if it resolves the problem.

Repair Visual C++ Redistributable Package

If reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package did not resolve the vcruntime issue, the next option is attempting to repair it.  It is a solution that usually works for many gamers who encounter vcruntime140.dll was not found error.

Open the Programs and Features tab on your system and find Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package from the list. It looks something like this –

To repair the package, you have to right-click on it and choose “Change” from the drop-down menu. It will redirect you to an uninstall tab, where you have to click on “Repair.”

After the process is complete, restart your PC and launch your game to check if the problem persists.

Run A Scan To Detect Malware

If none of the fixes discussed above work, there are chances that your computer may have a virus infection. If that is the case, you have to run a scan to remove the malware using Malware Bytes or any other Windows security software. Once the scan detects and successfully gets rid of the virus, the vcruntime error should automatically get fixed.

Launch the antivirus program on your system and choose the Quick Scan or Full System Scan option. Wait until the scan completes, and then try to install or launch your game. You can run the game and check if the vcruntime error appears.

Other than these fixes, you can also try disabling controlled folder access, depending on the type of game you are trying to launch. Ensure that you are running the game on the dedicated GPU instead of the integrated card.
