Android 7.1.3 Update – Will Google bring it up or directly go to Android 8.0?

The second developer preview of Android 8.0 O is now available for download and very recently Android 7.1.2 was announced. Moving on will we have Android 7.1.3 update? Let’s discuss.

Android 7.1.3 Update

The fate of Android 7.1.3 Nougat hang in the hands of Google and its release is yet to be confirmed. Our exclusive sources have confirmed that Android Nougat 7.1.3 will be released ahead of Android 8.0 official naming announcement. It will not have many new features as it’s rumored to be just a bug fix update.

Android 7.1.3 update

It happens to be an intermediate update bringing fix to problems and bugs found in latest release of 7.1.2 update. Many carriers will directly jump to Android 7.1.3 from Android 7.1 skipping the Android 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 updates.

If at the Android 7.1.3 update is available, it will be released to following handsets –

  • Samsung Galaxy S8
  • Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • HTC 11
  • Sony Xperia XA
  • BlackBerry KEYone
  • Xiaomi Mi6
  • Huawei Honor 9

Apart from the above mentioned devices, many other devices will get the update, so considered this list as incomplete. We listed some devices only to showcase that the list will further grew big enough to include many phones.

List of Phones to get Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update – Expected

Checkout the list of phones expected to get Android 7.1.2 Nougat update.

Moving on from Android Nougat, which is not a surprise anyone, we will have the upcoming Android version. Before Google announces the Android 8 version, we will have the 7.1, 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 versions roll out which is called as the maintenance update. Here we list out expected phones to get Android 7.1.2 Nougat update.

Android 7.1.2

Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update

The Android 7.1 Nougat is expected to arrive on smartphone as an Over the air update and availability on Nexus and Android One phone is in fall 2016. So as expected, three devices runs on Android 7.1 now – Google Pixel phones and all new General Mobile GM 5 smartphone. These three handsets also qualify to receive the Android 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 update although one or the other device might skip one of those updates.

Yes, that’s right as the Android 7.0 update is already available for qualifying Nexus devices. At the end of the year we might have the 7.1.1 release.

Android 8.0 Names

The following devices will definitely receive the Android 7.1 update –

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Nexus 5X
  • Huawei Nexus 6P
  • LG V20
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Duos
  • Samsung Galaxy S8
  • Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
  • Samsung Galaxy S7
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • HTC 10
  • LG G5
  • LG G6
  • General Mobile GM 5
  • ZTE Maven 2

The $40 ZTE Maven 2 from AT&T recently got the Android 7.1.1 update and maybe receiving the Android 7.1.2 update in short time.

This list is not official list provided by either Android or Google or the OEM. This is my assumption based on experience and it’s nothing hard to guess.

The update is expected to be a minor one if you are running Android 7.0 Nougat. Some devices might directly jump to Android 7.1.2 OTA from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It’s quite surprising that last year we didn’t had any Android version beyond 6.0.1. Comparatively, Nougat will have three minor updates.
